On 10 June, Kęstutis Budrys, Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Northway Biotech. With representatives of the company, the Minister discussed export development opportunities and prospects in biotechnology research.
During the visit, the Minister said that Lithuania's biotechnology sector is among the fastest-growing areas with the greatest international potential, and that our companies are successfully establishing themselves in international markets. Budrys emphasized the importance of export development and singled out the U.S. as the strategic direction of Lithuania's biotechnology exports.
"Lithuania has a real opportunity to become one of the global leaders in biotechnology, but this requires a coherent state-business partnership. The development and successful activities of Lithuanian companies in different countries of the world prove that Lithuanian companies can compete and operate successfully on a global scale, and the task of the state is to help such companies enter international markets even more courageously and create high-value-added innovations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work consistently to strengthen Lithuania's business position in global markets and help open up new partnerships," the Minister said.
The Minister and the management of the company also discussed the European Union's agenda in the field of biotechnology and the priorities of the upcoming Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
At the meeting, a vision of Bio City was presented. There is a plan for Europe's largest life sciences campus with a long-term value of up to €7 billion in total investment.
