ATLANTA - Georgia House Majority Caucus Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross) today issues the following statement on the passing of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who died on November 3, 2025:
"Over his decades of public service, Dick Cheney served the American people and the people of his home state of Wyoming well. I've learned much from his service, including his time holding the leadership role in Washington that I hold in Atlanta as Whip. Misty and I hold his wife Lynne, his daughters Liz and Mary and the entire Cheney family in our prayers."
Over more than four decades in public service, former Vice President Dick Cheney served the nation in a variety of roles, including White House Chief of Staff to President Gerald R. Ford, U.S. Representative from Wyoming, Secretary of Defense under President George H.W. Bush and, from 2001 to 2009, Vice President of the United States under President George W. Bush.
Representative James Burchett represents the citizens of District 176, which includes Lanier County, as well as portions of Coffee, Atkinson, Lowndes and Ware counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 and currently serves as the House Majority Whip. He also serves on the Appropriations, Appropriations Subcommittee on Judicial, Ethics, Judiciary, Judiciary Non-Civil, Public and Community Health, Rural Development, State Properties and Transportation committees, as well as an Ex-Officio member of the Rules Committee.
