NAVSEA Recognizes 2024 Department of Navy Acquisition Excellence Award Winners

WASHINGTON - Acquisition professionals from the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) enterprise received seven awards for outstanding acquisition practices in the 2024 Department of the Navy Acquisition Excellence Awards. The Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition (ASN RDA), The Honorable Mr. Nickolas Guertin, recognized the winners in a ceremony at the Pentagon on Nov. 8.

The Acquisition Excellence Awards recognize individuals and organizations that have demonstrated excellent performance in the acquisition of products and services for the Navy and Marine Corps. Award winners represent the very best of professionalism, ingenuity and accomplishment among their peers. Of the 22 competitive categories, seven individuals or teams from NAVSEA were selected as winners.

"Today's awardees reflect the critical importance of getting acquisition right throughout a program's lifecycle," said Guertin. "Our persistent focus on mission systems and making our platforms ever-increasingly lethal will help deter great power conflict in the near-term. In the long-term, the changing nature of war requires that each of us in acquisition find more affordable ways to bring the fight to our opponents."

NAVSEA recipients of the 2024 Department of the Navy Acquisition Excellence Awards include:

• International Partnership Acquisition Award: Australian, United Kingdom and United States (AUKUS) Integration and Acquisition Program Team

• Contracting Excellence Acquisition Team of the Year Award: SEA 21's Streamlined Growth Management Process Team, Surface Ship Maintenance, Modernization and Sustainment

• Innovation Excellence Acquisition Team of the Year Award: PMS 420 Off board Unmanned Command and Control Systems Program, from PEO Unmanned and Small Combatants

• Art Diaz Memorial Award: Ms. Cynthia Dean, NSWC Port Hueneme Division

• Business Finance Management: Mr. Jordan Scott from PMS 450 Virginia Class Submarines Program in PEO Attack Submarines

• Program Manager of the Year Awards: Capt. Jonathan Haase from PMS 408 Expeditionary Missions Program in PEO Unmanned & Small Combatants

• Rear Admiral Wayne E. Meyer Memorial Award: Mr. Jay Stefany, Direct Reporting Program Manager for Maritime Industrial Base 

"These awards reflect the steadfast commitment of a great team of acquisition professionals, focused on accelerating and delivering combat capability to the fleet," said Vice Admiral Jim Downey, Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command. "Their outstanding achievements are the gold standard for putting the finest ships and weapon systems into the hands of our Sailors and Marines."
