Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis Visits 5th Raider Battalion

On Saturday 19 September 2026, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis, visited the base of the 5^th Raider Battalion.

The Deputy Minister was received by the Commanding General of the 1^st Raider - Paratrooper Brigade "El Alamein", Brigadier General Alexandros Gremos. Afterwards, Mr. Davakis was briefed on the mission, training, and high operational capabilities of the Unit, while he also had the opportunity to discuss with its personnel and enlisted soldiers.

On the occasion of his visit, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis, made the following statement:

"Today, I visited the 5^th Raider Battalion and once again realised its important operational mission, which is supported by constant, realistic, and particularly demanding training under any circumstances.

The excellent training, high morale, and operational readiness of the personnel of our Special Forces confirm that the national security and territorial integrity of our country are in good hands.

I discussed with the Leadership of the Battalion regarding the upgrading of its facilities, and we arranged new interventions.

I would like to thank them for their devotion to duty and I want to assure them that the political leadership remains steadily dedicated to the constant improvement of the everyday lives of them and their families".
