Don Tripp, Deputy City Manager, Retires After 46 Years of Public Service

GREELEY, Colo. - The City of Greeley announced last week the retirement of deputy city manager Don Tripp, who is ending a 46-year career in public service. Spanning six decades, Tripp has served various communities.

After Tripp's first role as the first Park and Recreation Director for Nevada, Iowa, he remained committed to working in towns and cities. He and his colleagues provided future focused leadership in Ames and Des Moines, Iowa; Battle Creek, Michigan; and in Westminster, Colorado; prior to Greeley.

Since joining the City of Greeley, Tripp has played a pivotal role in the city's transformative growth, touching several projects and initiatives in the community. His contributions include:

• Spearheading strategic planning initiatives that envision Greeley's future 50 years from now, with a focus on development in both west and east Greeley.
• Leading the city's community development efforts to enhance urban development and growth.
• Overseeing infrastructure improvements that have transformed mobility and public transportation within the city.
• Playing a key role in attracting GRIT Hockey to establish their home in Greeley.
• Being a steadfast supporter and champion of the UNC School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Though Tripp's retirement officially took effect at the end of August, he will continue to serve Greeley in a part-time contract role. In this capacity, he will lend his expertise to strategic city initiatives and projects, ensuring a seamless transition and continued progress for some of the city's biggest priorities.

"It has been an honor for Greeley to be my last stop along my professional career," said Tripp. "I was blessed to work with thousands of dedicated city employees, 11 mayors, plus approximately 50 city council members. I retire in awe of the dedication of all these civic leaders. Greeley is in very good hands with its elected and appointed officials, led by Mayor John Gates and City Manager Raymond Lee. I remain committed to supporting the city moving forward."

City Manager Raymond Lee, who hired Tripp in 2022 to oversee several departments including Community Development and Public Works, expressed gratitude for Tripp's service. "Don's dedication as Deputy City Manager has been exemplary," said Lee.

"His efforts have been instrumental in bringing several key projects and programs to fruition, and his leadership has set a high standard for the entire team. Greeley has greatly benefited from his expertise. We are grateful for everything Don has done and will continue to do for the city. We look forward to working with him in this next chapter and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement."
