European Union participates as observer in the General Assembly of ICCROM

A historic moment: Today, the European Union participated for the first time as observer in the General Assembly of ICCROM, the multilateral organisation working for the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage.

This follows EU Culture Commissioner Glenn Micallef's extraordinary initiative to swiftly step up support to this important intergovernmental organisation, following the US withdrawal, and with a particular focus on Ukraine's cultural heritage. The EU believes in multilateralism. It is often hard work. But it is essential that we team up across countries, regions and continents to preserve and restore what is the soul of our identities: culture, in all its diversity.
