WASHINGTON - Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters elected Nevada Assembly Majority Leader and former Moms Demand Action volunteer Sandra Jauregui as the next Lieutenant Governor of Nevada.
"Sandra Jauregui survived the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival and turned her unimaginable grief into life-saving advocacy," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Nevadans just gave her a bigger platform for the fight to keep communities safe, and Everytown congratulates Lieutenant Governor-elect Jauregui on her victory."
"Sandra Jauregui is a survivor and a former Moms Demand Action volunteer, and in Carson City she has made sure the people closest to gun violence are heard," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "Now she'll bring that voice to the lieutenant governor's office. Survivors belong at the center of this fight, and our movement couldn't be prouder to see one in statewide office."
"Sandra Jauregui has been one of us, standing with Nevada moms and survivors at the legislature year after year, and it means the world to see her elected lieutenant governor," said Aurora Cox, a volunteer with the Nevada chapter of Moms Demand Action. "Nevada will be safer with leaders like Lieutenant Governor-elect Jauregui in Carson City, and we'll be right there with her."
Lieutenant Governor-elect Jauregui was among 547 Moms Demand Action volunteers who ran for offices up and down the ballot across 47 states this cycle. Many were trained through Demand a Seat, which Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund launched in 2021 to train grassroots volunteers and gun violence survivors to run for office. The program has trained more than 1,600 volunteers across 49 states and Washington, D.C. Since 2021, more than 600 former volunteers have been elected, including six who were already serving in Congress before this election.
