The coordinated efforts of Youth Services, TITANS, and Security Threat detectives led to the arrest of Devin Butler, 35, who early Thursday morning randomly and brutally attacked a 14-year-old girl who was sitting on a bench outside her apartment at 300 E. Webster Street.
Butler, who also lives at the apartment complex, is seen on video surveillance approaching the victim and suddenly striking her with a hammer. The teen sustained serious injuries to her head but is expected to make a full recovery. She told officers she had never met Butler.
Due to the concerted efforts of the detectives, Butler was located Friday morning walking on Gallatin Pike near Sharpe Avenue in East Nashville where he was taken into custody.
Butler, who has prior convictions for domestic assault and assault on a first responder, is now charged with attempted criminal homicide.
