Treasury Official John Crews Tapped for NCUA Board Seat

President Donald Trump on Monday announced the nomination of John Crews to serve on the NCUA Board. If confirmed by the Senate, Crews - who currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy at the Treasury Department - would succeed current Chairman Kyle Hauptman, whose six-year term expired in August 2025.

Before joining Treasury, Crews served as a policy advisor to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and as Policy Director for the Senate Banking Committee. During the previous Trump Administration, he also served on the National Economic Council as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy.

Hauptman welcomed the nomination in a post on LinkedIn, stating, "Congratulations to my friend John Crews on his nomination to succeed me on the National Credit Union Administration board. The agency will be in good hands."

Hauptman has served as the sole Board Member since the removal of Board Members Todd Harper and Tonya Otsuka more than a year ago. He was appointed to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in February and has continued serving in both roles since that time.

If confirmed, Crews' term would run through August 2031.
