Boise State alum Viktoria Crawford's short film, "Green Bean" is an Official Selection of the 2026 Tacoma Film Festival. The film will screen at the festival in Oct. 2026 as part of the "Northwest Tales" shorts program.

"Green Bean" is a quiet drama about a young girl with an absentee mother who must choose between growing up and facing reality, or holding onto her childhood innocence. Crawford wrote and directed the film as part of the Short Film Lab during the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Short Film Lab is an environment where students create short films following the production track of a real-world studio experience. They collaborate in a writing room creating a script, cast and film with student and community actors, and edit the film before a community screening.

The Short Film Lab gives students real-world experience in the film industry and a finished product they can show off.

"For the students who go through the process of the Narrative TV Initiative or the Short Film Lab - the difference in terms of their preparation level post-graduation is enormous," said Associate Professor Ryan Cannon. "We see firsthand how effective the experiential learning component is."
