SACRAMENTO - Construction on the $511.1 million U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Multimodal Corridor Enhancement "Fix50" Project continues with a closure at the eastbound U.S. Highway 50 connector to northbound Capital City Freeway/Business 80.
With four lanes open in both directions of the highway, all traffic splits and detours removed from the mainline last December, and 82 overhead signs installed, the Fix50 project has entered its final phase. Work is now focused on rehabilitating this important connector at the interchange.
On March 27, Caltrans alerted motorists about three scheduled April closures at the Capital City Freeway/State Route 99 (SR 99)/U.S. Highway 50 interchange. On April 24, the closure was postponed due to a power outage at the contractor's asphalt plant. This 15-hour closure will take place this weekend.
Connector Closure: 15-hour closure for eastbound US 50 to eastbound Capital City Freeway/Business 80 connector: 10 p.m., Friday, May 1 to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 2.
Suggested Detour:
Caltrans reminds drivers to expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones, and pay close attention to warning signs. Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
The ongoing work is part of a project to rehabilitate pavement and add 14 lane miles of high-occupancy vehicle lanes from the US 50/Interstate 5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange.
The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph, and the California Highway Patrol will be present for enforcement. For more information, visit the U.S. Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation Project page .
Work is scheduled as listed but may change due to traffic incidents, equipment or material availability, or other construction-related issues. Caltrans District 3 maintains 4,385 lane miles in 11 counties and reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and slow down in construction zones.
