Chinese Consul General in Erbil Liu Jun Attends Chinese New Year Celebration at Salahaddin University

On 12 February 2026, Consul General Mr. Liu Jun attended the Chinese New Year celebration hosted by the Department of Chinese Language at Salahaddin University in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He joined Dr. Saman, Dean of the College of Languages, Dr. Kaifi, Head of the Department of Chinese Language, and more than one hundred faculty members and students in celebrating the Lunar Year of the Horse.

In his remarks, Consul General Liu extended New Year greetings to all faculty and students. He encouraged students to excel in their Chinese language studies and wished the Department continued progress and new achievements in the Year of the Horse.

Before the event, students decorated the classrooms with traditional paper-cuttings and Spring Festival couplets, creating a festive atmosphere. During the celebration, they performed Chinese idiom greetings, poetry recitations, and songs, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the spirit of the Chinese New Year and experience the vibrant "China vibe."

Established in 2019, the Department of Chinese Language currently has more than 140 students across four academic years. Chinese has become one of the most popular majors among students in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
