OMAHA, NE - Today, U.S. Department of Education (the Department) Senior Advisor for Civic Education Katie Gorka visited Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha as part of the Department's national History Rocks!Trail to Independence Tour, in celebration of America's upcoming 250th birthday. The Tour aims to strengthen civic literacy by helping students personally connect with America's founding principles.
Five hundred students in fourth through twelfth grades participated in interactive games designed to deepen their understanding of American history and civics and the important role Nebraska has played in our nation's history. The event opened with remarks from COO Nathan Domsch and CEO Sarah Harper, followed by Senior Advisor Gorka. Students explored themes of civic engagement, patriotism, and the shared responsibilities of citizenship.
"Nebraska has long played a pivotal role in guiding America's future, from the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad by early pioneers and on to modern day," said U.S. Department of Education Senior Advisor for Civic Education Katie Gorka. "History Rocks! brings that history into focus for students, helping them see how the values they learn today can prepare them to guide America's next 250 years."
