Scammers are contacting Clearwater utility customers and claiming their bills are overdue, then directing them to wire money to specific accounts. The city of Clearwater warns that these emails are fraudulent.
Customers should know that the city, CGS Energy, Clearwater Utility Customer Service, and Clearwater Public Utilities do not request payments through 800 or 888 numbers.
If you receive this type of email, do not provide payment or personal information. Contact Clearwater Utility Customer Service directly at (727) 562-4600 if you have any questions. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and in-person customer service assistance in the lobby is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
