Issue Brief on “Africa Forward Summit 2026”

The Africa Forward Summit 2026 was held in Nairobi, Kenya, on 11-12 May 2026. The summit was co-hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron.[1] It brought together more than 30 African Heads of State, senior representatives of international organisations, policymakers, investors, multinational corporations, and over 1,500 business and economic leaders from across Africa and Europe. The summit concluded with the adoption of the Nairobi Declaration, an 11-point framework outlining a renewed model of Africa-France cooperation centred on investment, industrialisation, innovation, and strategic partnership.[2]

Among the prominent leaders who attended the summit were Paul Kagame, Rwanda; Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria; Félix Tshisekedi, Democratic Republic of the Congo; Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Egypt; Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Senegal; Julius Maada Bio, Sierra Leone; Joseph Boakai, Liberia; Alassane Ouattara, Côte d'Ivoire; Aziz Akhannouch, of Morocco; and Brice Oligui Nguema, Gabon. The summit was also attended by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, H.E. António Guterres, reflecting the broader international importance attached to the event.
