UC hosts regional summit on the future of healthcare education
Educators, clinicians and community partners explore strategies for preparing workforce

The University of Cincinnati College of Allied Health Sciences recently hosted the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) 2026 Regional Summit, welcoming educators, clinicians, healthcare leaders and community partners for conversations centered on the future of the healthcare workforce.
Organized around the theme "From Classrooms to Care Teams: Workforce-Ready Graduates", the summit examined how academic institutions and healthcare organizations are adapting to changes across the industry, from evolving patient needs to shifting workforce demands. As one of six national hub locations selected for the event, the College of Allied Health Sciences served as a regional gathering point for discussions on clinical education, interprofessional collaboration and workforce preparation.
Sessions during the summit focused on the transition from education to practice, highlighting approaches that connect classroom learning with real-world healthcare environments. Faculty members, healthcare professionals and institutional leaders shared perspectives on experiential learning, collaborative care models and partnerships between universities and healthcare systems.
For students, the conversations offered insight into the expectations and realities of today's healthcare professions. Faculty and staff engaged with peers and industry leaders to address emerging challenges in allied health education, while healthcare and community partners explored opportunities for continued collaboration across the region.
The summit also underscored the role universities and healthcare organizations play in shaping the pipeline of future providers, at a time when healthcare systems across the country continue to face workforce shortages and rising demand for patient care.
