Safe Disposal Event In Concord on October 24

Clearing out the clutter? Make sure it ends up at the right place! The City of Concord, Cabarrus County Government, and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont are helping residents safely dispose of unwanted items at the annual Fall Safe Disposal Event on Saturday, October 24.

This community-favorite, free event is programmed for residents, and unfortunately cannot accept drop offs from organizations or businesses. The Safe Disposal Event is held biannually to provide residents an opportunity to confidently dispose of sensitive documents like tax forms and medical records, as well as electronic waste, unused or expired medications, and lithium-ion batteries in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

To better accommodate the growth of this event, it will now take place at West Cabarrus High School, located at 4100 Weddington Rd. in Concord.

Again this fall, residents are encouraged to bring their lithium-ion batteries so they can be disposed of properly. Lithium-ion batteries, commonly found in items like laptop computers, smartphones, power tools, and other high-drain portable, rechargeable electronic devices, can become very dangerous when tossed into the garbage or recycling bin. They can spark and cause fires in collection trucks, the landfill, and the recycling center.

The Safe Disposal event will be drive-thru style. See the guidelines below for more information:

  • Paper: limited to 5 trash bags or bankers boxes per person.
  • Electronic waste: televisions, computers, and other devices.
  • Unused or expired medications: the City of Concord Police Department will be on site to safely dispose of unused and expired medications. Needles will not be accepted during this event.
  • Lithium-ion batteries: no limits, however, batteries should be placed in a clear sealed bag, such as a Ziplock bag.
