In 2025 alone, at least 32 people have died in ICE custody or during enforcement operations, the highest number in decades. Additional deaths have already occurred in January this year, including fatalities linked to reckless ICE raids. Advocates and community leaders have raised concerns about the lack of planning, transparency, and coordination with state and local officials during these operations.
Assemblymember Ransom criticized the federal administration for deporting innocent people and issuing premature public statements that place blame on victims before thorough investigations are completed.

Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom also points to federal funding decisions that have significantly expanded ICE's budget while cutting essential social programs, calling the enforcement strategy reckless and dangerous.
