Tennessee Corn and Soybean Production Lower than 2023

Corn production in Tennessee is estimated at 100 million bushels, down 35% from the previous crop. Yield was estimated at 152 bushels per acre, down 21 bushels from the 2023 level. Acres for harvest as grain were estimated at 660,000 acres, down 230,000 acres from 2023. U.S. corn production is estimated at 14.9 billion bushels, down 3% from 2023. Yields averaged 179.3 bushels per acre, 2.0 bushels from 2023. Area harvested for grain was estimated at 82.9 million acres, down 4% from 2023.

Soybean production for Tennessee is estimated at 75.6 million bushels, down 6% from 2023. Yield was estimated at 42.0 bushels per acre, down 9.0 bushels from a year ago. Acreage for harvest was estimated at 1.80 million acres, up 230,000 acres from the previous year. U.S. soybean production is forecast at 4.37 billion bushels, up 5% from last year. Yields averaged 50.7 bushels per acre, up 0.1 bushels from last year. Area for harvest is estimated at 86.1 million acres, up 5% from 2023.

Tennessee cotton production totals 555,000 bales, down 18% from last year. Cotton yields averaged 1,066 pounds per acre, down 184 pounds per acre from the previous year. Producers harvested 250,000 acres, down 10,000 acres from 2023. U.S. all cotton production is estimated at 14.4 million 480-pound bales, up 19% from 2023. Yields were estimated at 836 pounds per acre, down 63 pounds from last year. Upland cotton production is estimated at 13.9 million 480-pound bales, up 19% from 2023.

Tennessee burley tobacco production is estimated at 5.76 million pounds, up 28% from 2023. Yield was estimated at 1,600 pounds per acre, up 50 pounds from the 2023 crop. Harvested acreage was estimated at 3,600 acres, up 700 acres from last year's crop. U.S. production is estimated at 57.0 million pounds, down 12% from last year. Burley growers harvested 28,600 acres, down 9% from 2023. Yields were estimated at 1,993 pounds per acre, down 68 pounds from last year.

Production of Tennessee dark fire-cured tobacco is estimated at 11.1 million pounds, down 26% from the previous year. Dark air-cured tobacco production is estimated at 2.38 million pounds, down 17% from last year.

Other hay production in Tennessee is estimated at 3.59 million tons, down 4% from last year.
