Dayton crews respond to snowfall on city streets
-Dayton International Airport is open-
-Waste collection canceled on Monday, Jan. 6-
With heavy snowfall occurring Sunday evening and expected overnight, City of Dayton Dept. of Public Works crews are clearing snow from highways and major streets and will continue to respond tonight, Monday, and beyond as needed.
Public Works crews began a full deployment today at 2 p.m., with 44 primary snowplow drivers reporting for a 16-hour work shift to treat streets. Additional personnel will rotate in 16-hour shifts.
The City of Dayton manages street treatment with a three-priority approach:
+ Highways (U.S. Rt. 35 and St. Rt. 4 within the Dayton city limits), thoroughfares, and streets around hospitals and schools, as well as Central Business District streets.
+ Arterials and collector streets (collectors are streets that move traffic from less-traveled residential streets to more heavily traveled arterials).
+ Residential streets, which are plowed and treated with salt when snow accumulation totals are 4 inches or more.
The Dayton Police Department and Fire Department are fully staffed and adding extra personnel for emergency response as needed.
City of Dayton waste collection service is canceled for Monday, Jan. 6. Service will tentatively be provided on a one-day delay all week; customers are advised to watch for updated information.
Dayton International Airport is open, operational, and prepared for the winter storm. The airfield is open, and roadways, parking areas, and sidewalks have all been treated. Passengers are advised to check the status of flights by contacting airlines directly or by checking the Flight Tracker at flydayton.com. Allow plenty of time to arrive safely when going to the airport.
