Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced today that a Providence man has been found guilty in Providence County Superior Court of murdering 40-year-old Mohsin Muhammad and mutilating the victim's dead body.

On July 17, 2025, following the conclusion of a four-day trial, Superior Court Justice Maureen B. Keough found Troy Ingram (age 27) guilty of one count of first-degree murder and one count of mutilation of a dead human body.

The defendant was remanded to the ACI pending a sentencing hearing scheduled for October 24, 2025.

"We are grateful that justice has been served for Mr. Muhammed and his family following this terrible crime," said Attorney General Neronha. "I hope this verdict provides some semblance of peace for everyone affected, and I thank the Providence Police and the attorneys in my office for their hard work on this difficult case."

During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that on July 20, 2019, the defendant murdered and mutilated Mohsin Muhammad at the victim's apartment.

In the early hours of July 21, 2019, Providence Police responded to Mr. Muhammed's apartment following a report of a suspicious death. Police found him lying on the floor in a pool of blood, with his head fully decapitated and his right arm partially severed. Investigators found a large knife and two shovels near his body.

The following day, investigators questioned the defendant about the murder, at which time the defendant provided a detailed confession. After the defendant entered Mr. Muhammed's apartment, which he believed to be empty, Mr. Muhammed confronted the defendant and told him to leave. Once out of Mr. Muhammed's apartment, the defendant retrieved a shovel, lured Mr. Muhammed to the front door, and struck him repeatedly in the face and head, bludgeoning him to death. The defendant also confessed to decapitating and partially dismembering parts of Mr. Muhammed's body with a knife before fleeing the scene.

Assistant Attorney General Dan Guglielmo and Special Assistant Attorney General L. Gregory Abilheira of the Attorney General's Office and Detective Angelo A'Vant (ret.) of the Providence Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of the case.
