Eater Relaunches Restaurant Discovery App as Part of Brand’s Multiplatform Strategy

Eater, the preeminent destination for food and dining, has relaunched its restaurant discovery app with a brand new look and features. The app is supported by Grubhub, a leading U.S. ordering and delivery marketplace that is a part of Wonder, and rooted in Eater's trusted authority in dining. New features focus on search and community building, allowing users to follow and connect with Eater editors, friends, and chefs including Eric Ripert, Mei Lin, Patricia Howard, Aaron Franklin, José Andrés, Mashama Bailey, Hillary Sterling, James Park, Dan Pelosi and more.

With nearly 45,000 restaurants across 85 cities, users can browse restaurants vetted by Eater's award-winning editorial team, create their own lists of spots to share with fellow diners and friends, and use the new conversational search function to find and book their next reservation. In addition, the updated activity feed notifies users of the latest in dining recommendations from regional editors and those they're following. Later this spring, users will be able to order from their favorite restaurants directly in the Eater app, a functionality powered by Grubhub.

"At a time when restaurant reviews are everywhere, our app is built around surfacing Eater's vetted recommendations and highlighting the editors and contributors behind them," says Stephanie Wu, Eater's editor-in-chief. "We want to make it easier than ever to find your next great meal, whether you're looking for dinner plans tonight or exploring a new city, and to find your dining community along the way."

The redesign of Eater's app is part of the brand's multi-platform approach to reaching diners in new, meaningful ways. In the last few months, Eater has expanded its newsletter offerings, premiered new social and midform video series, and launched new tentpole events. The brand is also focused on engaging local communities on platforms including Substack and has launched Dining Reports, a bite-size recommendation format built for mobile platforms. In addition, the team is getting ready to publish its next cookbook, Eaterland: Recipes and Stories from Across the United States, coming out April 28, 2026.

"The Eater team is constantly tracking new openings, emerging trends, and insider intel across the restaurant space," says Wu. "Our priority is ensuring that our journalism and our authority is at the heart of everything we do, and that our work surfaces everywhere audiences are."

The Eater Today newsletter has relaunched with a new narrative focus, showcasing the latest trends, buzziest news, biggest names, and hottest restaurant takes from across the country. Helmed by Eater senior reporter Bettina Makalintal, with contributions from Francky Knapp and other Eater reporters, Eater Today is now your essential "daily newsletter, from people with good taste."

Matthew Kang, Eater's correspondent in Los Angeles, has launched Kang Town, where he breaks stories and covers new openings and industry trends in the West in ways that show stories' relevance for a national readership. He combines hot takes with a ton of context, history, and behind-the-scenes insights, zooming out from a single meal to put it in conversation with chefs and trends across the region and the country.

New social series include:

  • "On the App:" Launching today, popular local chefs take Eater to a local restaurant that is included on their list featured in the Eater app. Featured chefs includes Eric Ripert and Gail Simmons.
  • Celeb-focused series "Let's Do Lunch" follows A-list celebrities going out to lunch with Eater and giving their hot takes on food and restaurants. Recent episodes include the Jonas Brothers, Kate McKinnon, William H. Macy, and more.
  • "First Bite:" What's it actually like to visit a restaurant around opening, and more importantly, is it any good? Find out and follow Eater editors on the scene as they take up a journey to that first bite.
  • In "Pass It On" we ask our favorite chefs to wax poetic on the places they go to eat. But we don't just stop there - we head to the place they recommend, share the compliments, see the dishes in action, and ask them to keep the chain going by passing it on.
  • Sometimes the best spots are hidden "In Plain Sight." In this series, Eater staff and friends of Eater take each other to their favorite spots and show them why they're important to them.
