The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech), in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), conducted the fourth Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting and workshop on June 11 at the DA-ATI Central Office in Quezon City.

The gathering focused on the ongoing implementation of the project, "Enhancing Local Capability to Design, Develop, and Manufacture Agricultural Machinery to Accelerate Mechanization of Philippine Agriculture."

Key accomplishments, including results from the recent survey, proposed sustainability plan, and remaining project targets were presented.

PHilMech Interim Director for Research and Development Dr. Nelson Santiago attended the meeting along with Engr. Arlene C. Joaquin and Engr. Raymund Joseph P. Macaranas who discussed the progress and future directions of the project.

During the meeting, Assistant Secretary for Special Concerns and Official Development Assistance (ODA) - Foreign Aids/Grants, and DA Spokesperson Arnel De Mesa, also led the awarding of a Certificate of Appreciation to KOICA Assistant Country Director Ms. Lee Hwieun, in recognition of KOICA's invaluable support to the Philippine agriculture sector.

Among the notable achievements of the initiative is the establishment of the Agricultural Machinery Design and Prototyping Center (AMDPC) at PHilMech, inaugurated in December 2023. The facility now serves as a vital hub for research, design, and development of locally adapted agricultural machinery aimed at accelerating mechanization and improving productivity in Philippine agriculture.
