Alert Regarding Bankruptcy Court Phone Scams

The Bankruptcy Courts have been alerted to a nationwide scam targeting debtors. Scammers are posing as Court officials-often "spoofing" caller ID to look like a legitimate Court number and using real names of staff to appear credible.

The Court will NEVER call you to demand immediate payment via Zelle, Venmo, or pre-paid cards.

How to protect yourself:

• Hang up immediately if a caller demands money over the phone.
• Never provide personal information or account numbers to unsolicited callers.
• Verify your status by calling the Clerk's Office directly if you are unsure about fees.

Official payments should only be made through Pay.gov via our website. We do not accept mobile payment apps or pre-paid cards.

To report a scam, or if you're unsure whether something might be a scam, contact your local federal court Clerk's Office or your local U.S. Marshals Service Office. You may also report a scam or suspicious communications to the Federal Trade Commission.
