On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, during the final Temecula City Council meeting of the year, 2025 Mayor Pro Tem Jessica Alexander was appointed unanimously by the City Council to serve as Mayor of Temecula for 2026.
Temecula's incoming Mayor was first elected in 2020 to serve on the City Council, and re-elected in 2024. As a proud Marine Veteran and former New York Police Officer, Alexander expresses, "It is a profound honor to serve as Mayor, and I approach this responsibility grounded in service and shared hope for 2026." She adds, "I am deeply committed to leading with compassion, integrity and a steadfast sense of duty that strengthens the heart of Temecula's service-oriented community."
2026 Mayor Alexander is a strong advocate for public safety, improving the City's infrastructure and roadways, and protecting the high quality of life that defines Temecula including its safe neighborhoods, beautifully landscaped parks, and family-friendly amenities. She also values preserving the rural character of Temecula's equestrian communities, along with the City's overall picturesque appeal from the charm of Old Town to the scenic setting of Temecula Valley Wine Country.
Alexander becomes Mayor effective January 1, 2026, for the calendar year, and adds, "Temecula's success lies in its extraordinary people, and I am dedicated to working collaboratively and diligently alongside my council colleagues for the well-being of our City and all its residents."
The Temecula City Council also unanimously selected Council Member Matt Rahn to serve as 2026 Mayor Pro Tem assuming mayoral duties in the event of Mayor Alexander's absence. Council Member James Stewart and Council Member Zak Schwank were appointed respectively to serve as 2026 President and Vice President for the Temecula Community Services District. Council Committee and Board assignments are planned to occur at a City Council Meeting in January 2026.
