Forestry Corporation is urging residents and motorists on the Mid North Coast to be mindful of smoke as hazard reduction burns occur in two State forests this week.
Hazard reduction burning commenced on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, in:
Smoke from the planned burns may be visible in surrounding communities.
Forestry Corporation Fire and Operations Team Leader Matt Model said residents and motorists may notice smoke as crews take advantage of suitable weather conditions to safely reduce fuel loads.
"While these hazard reduction burns are being conducted under careful planning and favourable conditions, smoke may still be visible in nearby communities, particularly during the late afternoon, evening and overnight when cooler conditions can cause it to linger," Mr Model said.
"We ask the community to be mindful that smoke does not necessarily mean an emergency and to check the Hazards Near Me NSW app for confirmation of planned fire activity. Our firefighters will be on site throughout the operations to ensure the burns remain within containment lines and are managed safely."
For safety reasons, the firegrounds will be closed for a week to all members of the public.
Residents who are sensitive to smoke, including those with respiratory conditions, are advised to close windows and doors when smoke is present and limit outdoor activity if required.
Details of the planned hazard reduction burns are published on the Hazards Near Me NSW app where the community can access the most up-to-date information.
Hazard reduction burning is an important part of Forestry Corporation's ongoing work to reduce fuel loads, protect communities and support safer bushfire conditions across the NSW Mid North Coast.
