Governor Pritzker Announces Tangent Technologies to Expand Operations in Illinois

Sustainable lumber manufacturer will invest $50 million and create 110 new jobs in Montgomery
MONTGOMERY - Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) today announced Tangent Technologies, LLC is expanding and consolidating its U.S. manufacturing operations in Illinois. As part of the company's decision to expand in Illinois, it will invest $50 million to relocate its operations - currently in Canada and Aurora, Illinois - to Montgomery, Illinois, as it increases capacity and creates 110 new full-time jobs.
"Tangent Technologies, a longtime Illinois job creator, is choosing to grow its business in our state, and for good reason - our exceptional workforce, infrastructure, and supply chain make Illinois the ideal place to grow a business," said Governor JB Pritzker. "This manufacturing leader isn't just putting Illinoisans to work, it's cementing Illinois' role as a hub for cutting-edge innovation."
Guided by Illinois' Economic Growth Plan, Governor Pritzker continues to build the foundation for long-term success by focusing on the key growth industries. As a global leader in plastic lumber, Tangent Technologies' investment further strengthens Illinois' innovative advanced manufacturing ecosystem. Illinois' top-ranked infrastructure, access to supply chains, world-class research institutions, and qualified workforce make it a premier destination to locate and grow advanced manufacturing businesses.
"We've long been prioritizing sustainability and innovation-it makes sense that Tangent Technologies would choose Illinois to expand," said Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton. "These investments are already paying off, and our communities will be stronger because of them."
Since 2003, Tangent Technologies has been recognized as one of the most experienced and reliable manufacturers in the recycled plastic lumber industry. With a commitment to innovation, Tangent Technologies constantly develops new ways to transform recycled material into durable, weather-resistant, environmentally conscious products for markets such as marine, park and recreation, agriculture, and more.
"Tangent strives to be the preferred partner in manufacturing High Performance Synthetic Materials, delivering an exceptional material value proposition to end consumers while maintaining a commitment to innovation, exceptional customer experience, and sustainability," said Tangent Technologies CEO Kevin Potthoff.
Following more than two decades of success, Tangent Technologies has outgrown its facilities and will consolidate and expand its operations at a 1.5 million square-foot facility in Montgomery. Tangent Technologies will advance two core structural product lines - waterfront decking and fencing products - with high potential for national retail distribution and install 50 new extrusion lines at its new central manufacturing hub. Bolstered by State funding, this expansion will position Tangent Technologies to serve a broader audience with high quality, sustainable products - driving revenue growth, creating new employment opportunities, and reinforcing the company's manufacturing footprint in Illinois.
"Tangent Technologies' decision to consolidate and grow its global operations in Montgomery was supported by the State of Illinois' successful EDGE program," said DCEO Director Kristin Richards. "Tangent Technologies' expansion will build upon Illinois' world-class manufacturing industry as they create and retain good-paying jobs for Illinois families."
As part of the Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) agreement with the State, Tangent Technologies has committed to making a $50 million investment, creating 110 new full-time jobs and retaining 485 jobs. A link to the full agreement can be found here. In 2025, companies in the EDGE program committed more than $2.6 billion in investments in communities across Illinois.
"With Tangent Technologies' Illinois expansion, the state is solidifying its status as a manufacturing powerhouse," said Senate Leader Linda Holmes (Aurora). "The Montgomery community will greatly benefit from this move as Tangent Technologies creates 110 new high-quality jobs at its new facility that will bolster the local economy."
"Illinois' competitive incentive programs helped Tangent Technologies select Illinois for its new centralized headquarters," said Representative Matt Hanson (Montgomery). "Tangent Technologies' commitment to sustainability aligns with the State's interest in investing in sustainable products and practices - a generational opportunity to prepare Illinoisans for a green future."
