Today, PES Secretary General, Giacomo Filibeck and PES Deputy Secretary General Saar van Bueren met with the President of the Democratic Party of Serbia, Srđan Milivojević, and Nebojsa Zelenovicto discuss the current situation in Serbia and the case of Bogdan Jovičić.
During the meeting, Srđan Milivojević explained the alarming situation surrounding the case of Bogdan Jovičić, denouncing the treatment he is receiving in state custody and the broader campaign of repression targeting the student movement in Serbia.
PES Secretary General, Giacomo Filibeck said:
"The student protests represent a powerful movement for hope and democratic change. Their demands are legitimate and must be heard. Freedom of expression cannot and must not be silenced.
We remain deeply concerned for Bogdan Jovičić's wellbeing. His immediate release is essential, and his health and safety must be treated with the urgency they require. We also reiterate our call for the protection of all detained students, including full access to medical care and transparent detention conditions."
