Grassley Launches 46th Year of Annual 99 County Meetings with Q&As in 13 Counties

WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) hit the ground running this week to begin his 46th consecutive year of meeting face-to-face with Iowans in every county.

Grassley started his annual 99 county meetings on Tuesday in Union County with a tour of a local business, followed by a question-and-answer session with employees. Grassley then held 12 additional county meetings, hearing from Iowans in Ringgold, Taylor, Adams, Page, Pottawattamie, Montgomery, Fremont, Mills, Harrison, Shelby, Audubon and Cass counties.

"Dialogue is the essence of representative government. You can't have representative government without speaking to your constituents," Grassley said. "I appreciate the opportunity to meet directly with Iowans in all 99 counties, answer their questions and hear what's important to them. I'm looking forward to more meetings throughout the year. As always, I'll bring Iowans' views back with me to the policymaking tables in Washington."

The Working Families Tax Cuts and its benefits to Iowa's farmers, rural hospitals and small businesses was a frequent topic of discussion, as Iowans learn more about how the law puts money back in their pockets.

Background:

For 46 years, Grassley's annual 99 county meetings have been scheduled using the same formula, including open town hall meetings, as well as meetings with Iowans at factories, hospitals, schools, service clubs and small businesses. After each county meeting, Grassley makes himself available for 15 minutes to answer questions from local reporters. Iowans set the agenda; no question is off-limits.

Grassley makes it a priority to hear from a cross-section of Iowans, including those who can't take time off work or school to attend town halls. His tireless efforts to meet Iowans where they work, study and live continues to set the standard for representative government. Iowans can also contact Grassley's office at any time to share their views or request assistance with federal agencies via his website. Every Iowan can expect a response from the senator.
