An update on the transformation of Primrose Court in Huyton was provided at a full council meeting on Wednesday 22 January 2025 by Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods.

Following the failure of two private sector developers who had committed to developing the estate, Primrose Court had been left with a lack of infrastructure, with a number of properties in a state of serious disrepair. The road suffered from crime, anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.

Knowsley Council recognised that it had to act and step in and so in August 2022, the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner supported the Council in securing £367,000 from the Home Office's Safer Streets 4 Fund.

This funding enabled several Council services to undertake a programme of engagement and capital works in Primrose Court and the surrounding Hillside area to improve community safety and tackle the longstanding crime and anti-social behaviour issues.

At the end of last year renovations were completed and tenants secured on the final two properties at Primrose Court.

As well as repairs and renovations to the homes, Primrose Court has benefitted from the installation of CCTV, street lighting, a new road surface and boundary fences installed - all aimed at preventing anti-social behaviour in the area.

In addition, and following consultation with the local community, children's play equipment was installed at Hillside Community Centre as well as improvement works to the surrounding green spaces.

Since the intervention of Knowsley Council all 23 properties on Primrose Court have been fully renovated and all now have tenants in situ. Incidents of anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping have also reduced.

Local residents have shared with Council officers how "the street looks great and life is much quieter" and expressed increased feelings of pride in the local area.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods added: "I'm delighted to see the transformation of Primrose Court. This is a clear example of Knowsley Better Together in action and what can be achieved when partners and the community work together. The works completed really have made a huge difference to not only the current residents in Primrose Court, but also the wider community."
