Ambassador Tuts' posting comes at a time when Canada is gearing up for the G7 chairmanship in 2025 and when Canada and the EU are preparing for the 20th EU-Canada Summit, scheduled to take place in Brussels next year.

"Canada is one of the EU's closest partners, a G7 and a G20 member, an ally and a friend. We share the same vision of the world, a commitment to democratic values and the rule of law, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms," said Ambassador Tuts. "My priority is to intensify the dialogue between the EU and Canada on global and regional challenges in a way that enables us both to advance our transatlantic and transpacific agendas.

"Strengthening our security and defence cooperation and our joint efforts to counter threats to democracy are important elements of my mandate. I am also looking forward to advancing sectoral priorities, such as bilateral trade and cooperation on economic security, work on critical raw materials, EU-Canada partnership on fighting climate change, protecting the environment and oceans, energy and digital cooperation."

Ambassador Tuts takes the helm of the Delegation of the European Union, the EU's diplomatic mission in Canada, after serving as head of cabinet of European Commissioner Didier Reynders (responsible for Justice, Rule of Law, Consumers and Data Protection). She has been a high-level EU official for nearly 20 years and gained an extensive experience in several EU Institutions.

"It is a true honour for me to represent the European Union in Canada, a country renowned for its natural beauty and generous and friendly people," said Ambassador Tuts. "I am an outdoors enthusiast and I enjoy running along rivers, lakes and coastlines, so I couldn't have asked for a better posting."
