Legislation Establishes Fair Trade Policy to Reward Clean Domestic Manufacturing, Penalizing Dirty Production Abroad

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Representative Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.) would strengthen the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing and create predictable trade rules while reducing carbon emissions worldwide.

"Investments in American innovation have led to more efficient, less polluting manufacturing industries, but we need to see more of this progress worldwide. This thoughtful bill from Senator Whitehouse, Representative DelBene, and others would help ensure clean, made-in-America products are competitive by rewarding manufacturers for low-carbon supply chains and processes," said Shannon Heyck-Williams, associate vice president of climate and energy policy at the National Wildlife Federation. "We need comprehensive, durable, and predictable strategies to rapidly reduce carbon emissions, and this bill shows how we can forge a smart, market-based carbon strategy while growing the U.S. clean energy economy and strengthening our competitiveness."
