Lego Replica of Garland Downtown Square Unveiled

We are proud to showcase the City of Garland's Lego replica of the Downtown Square. The display was imagined, designed and built by Detective John Capers of the Garland Police Department and was officially unveiled on Dec. 4.

This remarkable creation highlights many familiar landmarks throughout the Square and includes several historic features, all carefully crafted in Lego form. The project incorporates more than 27,000 individual pieces and required over 150 hours of work, spanning four months from start to finish.

Detective Capers has served the City working as a Garland Police Officer since September 1999. He has worked in Patrol, the Neighborhood Police Officer Unit and as a Detective in Property Crimes. He is a dedicated, detail-oriented officer who consistently gives back to his department and the Garland community.

"I wanted to add another attraction to the City. Building Legos is a fun hobby, and it allows me to unwind after work," said Detective Capers.

This is not Detective Capers' first major Lego project. In November 2024, he unveiled a full Lego replica of the Garland Police Department Complex. You can view that project at GarlandTX.gov.
