City of Cedar Rapids Launches Garbage Truck Art Project – Call for Artists

The City of Cedar Rapids Utilities' Solid Waste and Recycling Division, in partnership with the Public Art Commission, invites artists to submit designs for the Garbage Truck Art Project 2026. This initiative will transform four more garbage collection trucks into vibrant, rolling works of art that celebrate the spirit of the Cedar Rapids' community.

• Submission deadline: March 22, 2026.
• Artist stipend: $1,250 per truck.

The City's selection committee will work in cooperation with the Public Art Commission to select a total of four (4) artists whose work is eye-catching and appealing, while also meeting goals outlined in the Call for Artists. The artwork will be installed on four (4) new garbage trucks. Keep an eye out for these unique traveling pieces of art coming to your neighborhood this spring.
