Repsol has been recognized with the Platts Global Energy Award for the deployment of NEXA fuels of 100% renewable origin in the Iberian Peninsula. The award, in the category of Excellence in Energy - Downstream, was presented at a gala in New York, thus consolidating the company's leadership in the promotion of renewable fuels.
The Platts Awards are considered the most prestigious awards in the global energy sector, recognizing excellence in innovation, leadership and sustainability. The jury granted this award to Repsol for overcoming the dual challenge of supplying affordable and reliable energy while advancing decarbonization across its operations and products.
In addition, Repsol stood out among its peers thanks to its large-scale production of renewable fuels and their successful implementation, achieving significant progress in its commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Repsol currently sells NEXA diesel at almost 1,500 service stations in Spain and Portugal, making it one of the largest distribution networks for 100% renewable fuels in Europe.
The company already operates the first plant in the Iberian Peninsula in Cartagena to produce 100% renewable fuels on a large scale, with the capacity to produce 250,000 tonnes of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) per year. In 2026, a second plant will be added in Puertollano with an annual capacity of around 200,000 tonnes of renewable diesel for road and maritime transport.
Repsol recently achieved a technological milestone by producing gasoline of 100% renewable origin on an industrial scale at its Tarragona complex, positioning the company at the forefront of energy innovation. Repsol's 95 NEXA gasoline is already available at more than 20 service stations in Spain, with the aim to reach 30 points of sale before the end of the year.
Repsol's NEXA fuels of 100% renewable origin, both diesel and gasoline, have formulations that are similar to conventional premium fuels, enabling the engine perform at its best and remain in optimal condition. They deliver the same performance, offering greater protection, cleanliness and performance optimization and are fully compatible with current vehicles without the need for modifications.
Combustion engines - whether petrol, diesel, or hybrid - today represent more than 98% of the European vehicle fleet and 87% of sales in Spain so far this year. Therefore, to achieve the climate objectives set by Spain and Europe, it is essential to recognise the contribution of 100% renewable fuels and to review the European regulation on CO2 emission standards for cars and vans, which proposes a ban on the combustion engine by 2035.
