(BINGHAMTON, NY) - The Broome County Division of Solid Waste Management is offering a new recycling opportunity this holiday season. All broken or unwanted holiday string lights can be brought to our Hazardous Waste Facility for recycling from November 15, 2025, until January 31, 2026. This program is available for free during our regular business hours; this collection is specifically for strong lights.
String lights will be processed for recycling at a local scrap metal facility once collected. Holiday strong lights are not recyclable curbside and are considered tanglers.
Please drop off your unwanted string lights at the Hazardous Waste Facility ONLY, NOT at our recycling roll-offs. Please pull onto the scales before drop-off.
This information is also available on our website at https://broomecountyny.gov/solidwaste/christmas-tree-recycling.
If you have any questions, call the Materials Recovery Manager, Allison McGovern, at 607-778-2308.
