The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) will host the 2025-26 EEA Law Moot Court in Reykjavík from 13 to 15 March 2026, bringing together a record 20 student teams for the annual competition.
The EEA Law Moot Court gathers students from universities in Iceland, Norway and across the European Economic Area (EEA), who simulate a fictional EEA law case in a courtroom setting. The aim is to reproduce, as closely as possible, the procedures and legal argument of a hearing before the EFTA Court.
This year's edition will take place at the Supreme Court of Iceland and the District Court of Reykjavík, offering participants the opportunity to argue their cases in a real courtroom environment. 20 teams are expected to take part, marking the highest level of participation since the competition was established in 2015.
This year's participating teams include students from both Icelandic and Norwegian universities, with a particularly strong presence from Norway: 18 teams in total. There are two teams from Iceland participating this year.
Through the competition, students receive advocacy training, feedback from legal experts and practical experience in EEA law. The winning team will be invited on a study visit to Brussels and Luxembourg, including visits to ESA, the European Union institutions, the EFTA Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The EEA Law Moot Court is organised annually by ESA as part of its educational and outreach activities to increase knowledge and understanding of EEA law across the EEA.
