OCTA Seeks Public Input to Help Shape Orange County’s Transportation Future

Directions 2050 plan will evaluate long-term transportation needs and identify opportunities to prepare for the next 25 years of growth

ORANGE - The Orange County Transportation Authority is preparing for the future of transportation throughout Orange County and invites residents, workers, and community leaders to help shape the long-range vision through the development of Directions 2050.

Every four years, OCTA updates its Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), which evaluates how Orange County's population, economy, and travel demands will evolve over the next two decades and beyond. Directions 2050 will look ahead to the year 2050 and outline strategies to ensure that the county's transportation system remains efficient, safe, balanced, and sustainable.

"The Long-Range Transportation Plan will help us prepare for Orange County's future mobility needs by assessing growth trends and identifying the best ways to invest in our transportation network," said OCTA Chair Doug Chaffee, also the Chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors and Fourth District Supervisor. "We want to hear directly from those who use our roads, buses, trains, and bikeways every day to help shape a vision that serves our entire county."

Community feedback is essential to ensure the plan reflects the needs of Orange County residents. Opportunities to participate include:

Directions 2050 will serve as a roadmap for Orange County's transportation investments, addressing long-term challenges such as population growth, emerging technologies, climate resilience, and sustainable travel options.

The plan will continue to be developed through 2026 and is scheduled to go before the OCTA Board of Directors for consideration before being submitted to the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) for inclusion in the regional transportation plan.
