Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, announces the appointment and nomination of three Heads of Delegation of the European Union.
Aivo ORAV has been appointed as the EU Ambassador to Türkiye. He is currently serving as the Head of Office/EU Special Representative to Kosovo and has previously, among other roles, held the position of Permanent Representative of Estonia to the EU.
He will take up his duties on 1 April 2026.
Amador SÁNCHEZ RICO has been appointed as the EU Ambassador to Chad. He has previously served as Head of Division for Southern Africa and Indian Ocean at the European External Action Service (EEAS). He has also, among other posts, held the position of Head of Delegation to Argentina.
He took up his duties on 1 March 2026.
Maria MARTIN-PRAT DE ABREU has been nominated as the EU Ambassador to the World Trade Organisation (WTO). She is currently serving as the Deputy Director General at the European Commission, Directorate General (DG) for Trade and Economic Security. She has previously served in several Commission DG's, among others, DG Connect and former DG Markt
She will take up her duties on 1 May 2026.
