For the second time in five years, the University of Delaware's student-run, volunteer ambulance service has been recognized as the nation's best.
The University of Delaware Emergency Care Unit (UDECU) received four honors - including Collegiate EMS Organization of the Year - at the annual National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation (NCEMSF) conference, held Feb. 20-22 in Arlington, Virginia.
"There was quite a bit of screaming and jumping with joy in the room when the University of Delaware was announced, I can tell you that," said master corporal Alaina Battle, an 18-year veteran of the UD Police Department who oversees UDECU.
UD received the Collegiate EMS Organization of the Year designation from among 110 other EMS units in contention. With this recognition, UD became one of only four universities to win the honor multiple times since NCEMSF created the award in 1998.
