ST. LOUIS - Drivers who use westbound Interstate 44 under Interstate 270 will need to find alternate routes next weekend, as crews will close all westbound lanes of the interstate, as well as the ramp from northbound I-270 to westbound I-44 for bridge repairs.
This is the second weekend to make repairs to a girder on a bridge on northbound I-270 that was damaged by an oversized load on westbound I-44 in July.
The Missouri Department of Transportation will close all westbound lanes on I-44 between Exit 276 and the Meramec River to make these repairs, as well as the ramp from northbound I-270 to WB I-44 starting Friday, October 17 at 10 p.m. The ramp from southbound I-270 to westbound I-44 and the ramp from westbound Route 366 to northbound I-270 will remain open, but there will be no access to westbound I-44 from westbound Route 366.
To detour around the ramp closure, drivers can use westbound Route 30, northbound Route 141 and get back onto westbound I-44. The detour for the westbound Route 366 ramp and westbound I-44 is to continue northbound on I-270, exit at Dougherty Ferry (Exit 8), cross over the interstate ramp and head southbound on I-270 to the ramp for westbound I-44.
During the closure, crews will complete repairs to a girder damaged by an oversized load in July.
All lanes, including the northbound I-270 lane between the ramp for eastbound I-44 and the ramp for westbound I-55 (that has been closed since July) will reopen Monday, October 20 by 5 a.m.
During this closure, drivers should still anticipate slow traffic in this area. Although signals at Dougherty Ferry will be adjusted for the greater flow of traffic, there will still be backups and delays in both directions. To avoid that, drivers should consider alternate routes or allowing extra time. Drivers can also check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map for up-to-date traffic and travel info at: http://traveler.modot.org/map/.
