The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, celebrated the start of production of the Cupra Raval model, the first 100% electric vehicle manufactured in Spain, at the SEAT factory in Martorell, and stated that "it is a source of pride to see Spain at the forefront of electric mobility".
"In the past we produced cars 'made in Spain', such as the SEAT 600. Today, we celebrate the official launch of series production of 'made by Spain' models, such as the Cupra Raval, and the production of the Volkswagen ID. Polo, which will contribute to democratising electric mobility in Europe", he stressed during the closing ceremony, which was attended by the Minister for Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, and which was also attended by the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Salvador Illa, the CEO of the Volkswagen Group, Oliver Blume, the CEO of Volkswagen, Thomas Schäfer, and the CEO of Seat & Cupra, Markus Haupt. Also present were the Minister of Business and Labour, Miquel Sàmper; the Government Delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, and the mayors of Martorell, Xavier Fonollosa, Abrera, Jesús Naharro, and Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Roser Brosed.
In his speech, Sánchez praised the start of production of Spain's first 100% electric car and pointed out that two other urban electric models, to be manufactured in Navarra, will soon follow. In this context, he stressed that the Government of Spain "has stepped up and supported the sector throughout this transformation, this change that is the new reality". "The automotive industry is fundamental, it is essential for Spain and Catalonia". The sector contributes around 10% of GDP and generates almost two million direct and indirect jobs, and Spain exports more than 90% of its production, he indicated.
In this regard, he stressed that public-private collaboration "has been and continues to be key to the transformation the sector is undergoing" and "the best strategy to mitigate climate change", create jobs, modernise factories, attract investment and ensure that in Catalonia and Spain it remains a relevant industry.

"It is a source of pride to see Spain at the forefront of electric mobility, thanks to a significant investment effort driven by the Recovery Plan", said Pedro Sánchez, who recalled that the five calls for proposals under the Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation of Electric and Connected Vehicles (PERTE VEC) have mobilised more than €4 billion in public funds, which have leveraged billions more in private funds. In addition, more than 1,900 investment projects have been approved in most Spanish plants, such as the electrification of the Martorell plant and the construction of the Sagunto battery gigafactory.
He also pointed out that the Auto 2030 Plan marks "the roadmap for continuing with the transformation of the sector, to adapt it to a more sustainable and technologically more competitive model over the next five years". "SEAT is an iconic brand in Spain and a fundamental element of the Spanish ecosystem and even of our country's identity. Therefore, let's continue working together to complete this exciting transformation process and make Catalonia and Spain the leading electromobility hub in Europe", he said.
