Minister Elmedin Konaković met with the Ambassador of the Republic of India to BiH, based in Budapest, Anshuman Gaur

Minister Elmedin Konaković met with the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Anshuman Gaur, who is based in Budapest, in Sarajevo on June 29, 2026.

The two officials reaffirmed the traditionally friendly and strong relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of India. They expressed mutual gratitude for the long-standing friendship and support that India offers to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The participants also conveyed their willingness to enhance political dialogue. They welcomed India's intention to open an embassy in Sarajevo, viewing it as an important step forward in developing bilateral relations and strengthening political, economic, and cultural cooperation.

Minister Konaković informed Ambassador Gaur about the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that opening accession negotiations with the European Union is the country's most important foreign policy priority. He noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing a geopolitical crisis-rather than an ethnic one-the most serious since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

The interlocutors agreed that strong political relations serve as a solid foundation for enhanced economic connections between the two countries. They discussed opportunities to increase trade, investment, and overall economic cooperation, particularly focusing on connecting business communities and improving collaboration in infrastructure and tourism. Minister Konaković presented Bosnia and Herzegovina as an attractive investment destination and a potential entry point to the European Union market. In response, Ambassador Gaur highlighted that Bosnia and Herzegovina's status as a candidate country for EU membership heightens India's interest in developing trade and investment cooperation.

The conversation also touched on improving the contractual and legal framework of bilateral relations. The cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and India within the framework of the United Nations and other international organizations was positively assessed, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to multilateralism, respect for international law, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

Additionally, it was noted that students from India studying in Bosnia and Herzegovina are an important bridge for cooperation between the two countries and contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and connection.
