Every summer, ADOT releases the Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts report for the previous calendar year. Here is the latest report, for 2024, documenting more than 120,000 crashes on local roads and state highways based on reports submitted by law enforcement agencies across Arizona. Those crashes resulted in more than 1,200 deaths and more than 50,000 injuries.

But there's much more to be learned from these reports and the data behind them than sobering statistics about crashes and their toll. For example, Crash Facts helps inform the work of ADOT engineers as they strive to safely connect Arizonans. Enter this week's guests for On the Road With ADOT. As Arizona State Traffic Safety Section Manager, Mazen Muradvich is deeply involved in producing and studying Crash Facts. State Traffic Engineer Kerry Wilcoxon was previously State Traffic Safety Engineer and draws on Crash Facts in his current role.

Spend a few minutes with Mazen, Kerry and host Doug Nintzel and you'll have a better idea how what goes into Crash Facts and how this report speaks to the role of driver behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving and driving under the influence when it comes to crashes, injuries and fatalities.

You can subscribe to episodes of On the Road with ADOT through Apple Podcasts and Spotify. You also can find episodes at azdot.gov/Podcast and featured in ADOT Blog posts.
