Glynn County and City of Brunswick Declare State of Emergency in Anticipation of Hurricane Helene

GLYNN COUNTY, GA- In preparation for the imminent arrival of Hurricane Helene to southeast Georgia, both Glynn County and the City of Brunswick have declared a State of Emergency effective as of Thursday at 6PM. In response to Governor Kemp's State of Emergency declaration, counties in the path of Helene have likewise enacted this executive order.

In anticipation of potential storm impacts, this proactive action allows Glynn County and the City of Brunswick to bolster preparedness measures and streamline potential reimbursements from state and federal authorities in response to Hurricane Helene. The State of Emergency empowers local authorities to take necessary actions and measures to ensure public safety.

The declarations authorize the implementation of consumer protection measures, such as preventing price gouging and ensuring fair pricing practices among vendors. Additional provisions include expedited post-storm recovery efforts, such as the temporary suspension of building permits.

The State of Emergency will stay in effect until it is officially lifted by both the county commission chairman and the Mayor of Brunswick, following the completion of recovery operations, rather than being based solely on the storm's passage.

For further updates and information regarding Hurricane Helene, residents are encouraged to monitor local media outlets and official channels from Glynn County and the City of Brunswick.
