WAYNESBORO - Just in time for the kick-off of the 2026-27 state budget season, Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) was named to the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for creating yearly budgets, by House Republican Leader Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton).
"I am thrilled to have Rep. Reichard join the Appropriations Committee," Republican Chairman Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) said. "Rep. Reichard's previous experience in both state and local government gives him a valuable perspective which will serve our committee well. I look forward to working with him in analyzing the budget line by line through three weeks of budget hearings as we work to understand and improve upon the governor's budget proposal."
The House Appropriations Committee is one of the most influential committees in the General Assembly. It directly reviews and questions spending requests from state agencies and drives the final budget that is put forth to all members for their approval.
"Being asked to serve on the Appropriations Committee is a huge honor, especially as a freshman," Reichard said. "I look forward to bringing our Franklin County perspective of responsible, commonsense budgeting to the committee. I hope to work with my colleagues from across the aisle to create a budget that respects taxpayers and prevents tax increases now and into the future."
Gov. Josh Shapiro will deliver this budget address, during which he'll discuss his proposed spending plan, on Tuesday, signaling the start of the 2026-27 budget season. In the coming weeks, the House Appropriations Committee will hold hearings that will include questioning state agency officials about spending requests. The budget is due to be completed by July 1.
Reichard also serves on the Communications and Technology, Game and Fisheries, Human Services, Labor and Industry and Local Government committees.
