The 2024/25 marketing year for wheat ended May 31. The USDA subsequently announced the final marketing year average wheat price was $5.52 per bushel, $0.02 above the effective reference price. This means payments will not be made under the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) program for the 2024 wheat crop according to agricultural economist Robin Reid at Kansas State University. But because some counties saw yield losses last year which drove county-level revenues below their respective Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) benchmarks, Reid says some producers will receive ARC-County payments. According to Reid, wheat producers in five Nebraska counties will receive payments: Rock ($6.87); Hall ($31.78); York ($34.57); Nance ($31.03); and Seward ($34.04). The payments will be made on a per acre basis on 85% of a farm's wheat acre base and will be issued in October.
