WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the House passed a government funding bill that fails to address the Republican healthcare crisis.
"Republicans and Donald Trump have spent this past year waging an all-out assault on healthcare by cutting the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, and Medicare. People are suffering. My constituents are worried about how they're going to afford to go to the doctor, especially while paying exorbitant prices for groceries and other goods thanks to Trumpflation. These are working families, children, and seniors who simply can't afford life under Donald Trump's economy. I cannot in good conscience support a spending bill that ignores both the devastating healthcare cuts and the crushing cost of living facing the American people.
"For 54 days, House Democrats have been pushing Republicans to take up the cause of making life more affordable for everyday Americans. Instead of joining us in that effort, House Republicans have been on vacation for seven weeks. Week after week, Democrats showed up in Washington to fight for legislation that would help Americans afford their healthcare. This Republican funding bill does not address rising healthcare costs but it does have a blatantly corrupt provision that would provide millions of dollars to eight Republican Senators and personally enrich them at taxpayers' expense. This is unconscionable.
"Republicans are not working on behalf of the American people. Americans see with their own eyes who is fighting for them, and who is working on behalf of the rich and powerful. The fight is not over, and House Democrats will not yield."
