KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas released the following statement after Missouri voters rejected Amendments 3, 7 and Proposition A and approved Amendment 6 on Tuesday. The results come three months after about 80% of voters rejected Amendment 4, which would have made citizen-led amendments harder to pass, and about 83% rejected Amendment 5, which would have phased out the state income tax.
"Once again, Missourians have chosen individual freedoms over special interests, rejecting statewide Republican efforts to control our choices, take away our voices, and harm our quality of life," said Mayor Lucas.
"Statewide Republicans failed on eliminating the income tax. Statewide Republicans failed to change our election maps. Statewide Republicans failed to revoke abortion and women's healthcare rights.
"It is time for common sense in Missouri. It is time for the protection of individual freedoms in Missouri. It is time that Missouri politicians take care of our schools, our workers, and our hospitals. It is time for local control of decision-making, including policing and safety in all our cities. And it is time for leaders who will address what Missourians actually want, not waste more of our time and our money on national political fights.
"We are not far right in Missouri. We want freedom and a fair shot. I look forward to working with all who want a better Missouri in 2028 and long after."
