On14 February, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the European Union's Special Representative for the Sahel region, João Gomes Cravinho. The meeting discussed the security situation in the Sahel, its implications for the coastal states, and the role of the EU in strengthening stability in the region.
"The destructive activities of the hostile actors deepen insecurity and destabilise the region, so it is necessary to strengthen a coordinated and principled EU response," said the Minister.
The Minister underlined that Lithuania supported the EU's engagement in the Sahel region in order to prevent the spread of illegal migration, terrorism, and organised crime.
